Working mothers hit hardest by pay inequalities

working mumDespite a Labour government holding power in Britain for more than a decade, the gap between the rich and poor is greater than it was forty years ago according to the government’s own commissioned report.

There are still large differences in pay between men and women; this can be attributed to women still shouldering the major burden of child care responsibilities, and taking part time employment which is often poorly paid.

Even though girls have better education outcomes academically. They are still falling behind in pay deals. The report highlight that women attain their highest income levels in their thirties, but in general pay is lower for each subsequent female age group after that .

The report by the Government Equalities Office, found that inequalities in earning and incomes are high in Britain compared to other industrialised nations despite it being a major government pledge to tackle inequality.
