The trouble with Mothers day

Mother’s day is celebrated throughout the world, but different countries seem to have different dates which can causerose confusion. For 2010 Mother’s day in the UK falls on the 14th of March. Where as in the USA, Mother’s day is on May the 9th.

This understandably causes some confusion. Mother’s day is a traditional gift giving occasion and a time when companies often create gift promotions for Mothering Sunday. In a global society with global brands, marketing messages are sometimes misdirected or misinterpreted; and for smaller companies it is a good idea to be aware of the differing dates to ensure that promotional messages are targeted at the right people on the right dates.

So next time you hear the words “Mother’s day,” it might be wise to think about which continent the messages are coming from.
