How to make a tiara

Filed under: Fashion and Beauty |

TiaraThe wearing of head decorations can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. The diadem was in fact the original tiara and the word actually originated from Persia.

If we fast forward to present day, the tiara has never been more popular. As well as the standard bridal headdress, tiaras are commonly seen now at award events and high school proms. The tiara has gone mainstream and is now acceptable headwear at any formal event where a long gown is worn.

Strangely it is the wearing of prom tiaras that is the most socially significant. This is because in western society, historically, noble families passed down a tiara to the elder daughter on the occasion of her marriage, and so this tiara came to signify “married woman” status, at a time when such status was highly sought after.

Now of course young women wear their high school prom tiaras as a sign of their young and growing independence. High school proms are a symbol or a rite of passage – a time which signifies a coming of age and a time to embark on new independent adventures.

Tiaras can be an expensive accessory, but they do certainly make an outfit complete on special occasions. As an alternative to store bought tiaras, you could try making your own and finish off with crystal bead embellishments in a colour to co-ordinate with your dress.

Well crafted tiaras are not difficult to make once some simple techniques have been mastered. And if done and presented in the right way, it is possible to run a home based business making tiaras, prom and bridal accessories.
